Proposed Symposium Title: Minds in Rhyme: The Poetry of Mental Health
Learning Objectives: To inspire a lyrical approach to caring for persons with Alzheimer's Disease and other mental health issues.
Abstract: In poetry, prose, and images Peter Maeck celebrates his father's brave, good-humored struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, while tracing his own journey from resistance to acceptance of his dad's condition. In so doing, Peter dramatizes how a lyrical treatment of mental health issues beautifully complements and enhances a clinical approach.
