Biography

Prof. Vincenzo Di Nicola trained in psychology, psychiatry and philosophy. He is the Chief of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Montreal University Institute of Mental Health, and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as well as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, USA. He is Founder and President of the Canadian Association of Social Psychiatry (CASP) and President-Elect, World Association of Social Psychiatry (WASP). His work is situated at the crossroads of children, families and culture in psychiatry, with the predicaments of eating and mood disorders, trauma, and migration and refugees. Prof. Di Nicola has written extensively about cultural aspects of family therapy, eating disorders, the social determinants of health, trauma, global mental health, and migrants and refugees. His books include: A Stranger in the Family: Culture, Families, and Therapy (Norton, 1997), Letters to a Young Therapist (Atropos, 2011), and Psychiatry in Crisis: At the Crossroads of Social Science, the Humanities, and Neuroscience (Springer, 2020) with DS Stoyanov.
