Biography

Jeffrey Geller, MD, MPH, President of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) 2020 – 2021, is Professor of Psychiatry at UMASS Medical School and a staff psychiatrist at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital after seven years as its medical director.
He is the author of over 125 referred journal articles and co-author of the book, Women of the Asylum. In the Clinton health reform era, he served as a RWJ Health Policy fellow in the US Senate. Currently, Dr. Geller serves on the boards of APA, Clubhouse International, and Treatment Advocacy Center and on SAMHSA’s National Advisory Council,. He is a recent board member of World Federation for Mental Health and American Association of Community Psychiatrists.
Dr. Geller has consulted with 27 states and several foreign countries. He has been an expert in many civil cases including major class action suits. With the exception of his year as an RWJ fellow, since starting his residency, Dr Geller has treated patients continuously for five decades.
Dr. Geller has received many awards including: Profiles in Courage and Human Rights awards from the APA; Award for Study of Human Rights in North America from the Myers Center; and President's Award for Public Service from UMASS.
